With assistance from Graham Weber, Andy Clymer, Colin M. Ford, Sara Soskolne, and Jonathan Hoefler, Troy Leinster created the Peristyle Font. In addition to a stencil, this typeface was launched in October 2017 in 6 weights, ranging from Light to Black. A group of fashionable condensed typefaces created to recapture the high-contrast sans’ easy style.

In Hellenistic Greek and Roman architecture, a peristyle (perystilylum) is a row of columns enclosing a courtyard or a building. The peristyle was defining characteristic of ancient Roman civilization and was an essential component of the time.

The font, called Peristyle, is a monumental typeface intended to make an immediate impression on readers without falling too far into exoticism or triviality. The condensed, high-contrast sans serif was created for print but looks fantastic on screens as well.

But it’s quite clear that it’s a font in the header design. It has two additional layer styles for chromatic typography, Peristyle Stencil, and six weights from Light to Black. It is also paired with the omega sans font.

Use of Peristyle font

The typeface is intended to stand out from retro or sci-fi typefaces that play with contrasts, even though it has specific historical and futuristic calligraphy characteristics.

Peristyle creates drama, elegance, and style, much like its architectural cousin, without succumbing to eccentricity.

Extreme weights and widths might convey delicateness or sturdiness, respectively. Even the lowercase letter’s size gives the reader an immediate cue: little lowercase can read as precious, while huge ones can appear kind and genial.

In all typefaces, contrast is present—the relationship between an alphabet’s thickest and thinnest strokes. It’s a remnant of calligraphy that shows the broad-edged pen’s enduring impact, and it can be seen in even the most mechanical geometric typefaces.
